Description: Provides extended DS3/T3 management objects supplementing the RFC 1407 base MIB definitions.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is RFC1407-EXT-MIB?
RFC1407-EXT-MIB is a vendor extension MIB (object prefix 'cndsx3') that supplements the IETF DS3/E3 Interface MIB defined in RFC 1407 with additional configuration and statistics objects for DS3/E3 (T3/E3) WAN interfaces. It adds extended configuration objects -- line build-out, scrambling enable, E3 configuration type -- alongside extended operational and total-statistics tables covering cell-level errors. It is used to monitor both configuration correctness and link-quality/hardware status of DS3/E3 interface cards: line build-out and scrambling settings must match the far-end and physical cable length, while cndsx3CellPayloadHECError and the total-statistics/operational tables reveal ATM cell header errors and line-level faults on the physical WAN link. It explicitly depends on and extends the base RFC 1407 DS3/E3 Interface MIB, reusing its interface indexing and adding cell/E3-specific objects on top of it. It would be deployed on router or multiplexer WAN interface cards carrying DS3/E3 circuits, particularly where ATM cells are carried over the DS3/E3 physical layer, and engineers consulting the RFC1407-EXT-MIB RFC alongside base RFC 1407 can map each extended object back to its underlying interface index.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RFC1407-EXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- router/multiplexer DS3/E3 (T3/E3) WAN interface cards
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll cndsx3ConfigExtTable/cndsx3ConfigExtEntry (indexed by cndsx3LineIndex) to confirm cndsx3LineBuildOut, cndsx3ScramblingEnable, and cndsx3E3ConfigType are set correctly for the circuit, then check cndsx3OperTable and cndsx3TotalExtTable for cndsx3CellPayloadHECError counts; a rising HEC error count on an otherwise correctly configured line typically points to a physical-layer fault such as a bad cable, connector, or line driver on the DS3/E3 card.
What Can Be Monitored
- DS3/E3 line build-out setting
- scrambling enable/disable state
- E3 configuration type
- cell payload HEC error count
- extended line operational/total statistics
