Description: Controls and monitors file transfer operations (upload and download) on Redstone Communications routers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is REDSTONE-FILE-XFER-MIB?

REDSTONE-FILE-XFER-MIB is a Redstone Communications enterprise MIB that manages file transfer operations — such as software image upgrades, configuration backups, and log retrieval — on Redstone routers via FTP or TFTP. Its rsFileXferTable, indexed by rsFileXferIndex, models each transfer request through objects like rsFileXferDirection (local-to-remote or remote-to-local), rsFileXferFileType (software release, system/running config, system log, script, reboot history, or bulk statistics), rsFileXferProtocol, and rsFileXferRowStatus to control row creation and commencement of the transfer per RowStatus semantics. The read-only rsFileXferStatus object reports outcome states (successful completion, in progress, remote unreachable, auth failed, file not found, file too big, incompatible, or pended), paired with rsFileXferTimeStamp recording sysUpTime at the last status change, and an rsFileXferTrap notification fires whenever a transfer's status changes. It depends on RowStatus and DisplayString conventions from SNMPv2-TC and the REDSTONE-SMI enterprise registration tree, and is deployed on Redstone Communications router platforms performing SNMP-driven file management. Operators automating firmware or config pushes to these routers can download the REDSTONE-FILE-XFER-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in REDSTONE-FILE-XFER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Redstone Communications router platforms

Monitoring Examples

An operator creates a row in rsFileXferTable with rsFileXferFileType set to rsFileXferSystemConfig and rsFileXferDirection set to rsFileXferRemoteToLocal, then sets rsFileXferRowStatus to createAndGo to start the transfer, polling rsFileXferStatus for completion; a returned value of rsFileXferRemoteUnreachable or rsFileXferFileNotFound would indicate the configuration pull failed due to network or path issues.

What Can Be Monitored

  • file transfer direction and file type
  • transfer protocol (FTP/TFTP) configuration
  • transfer row status/lifecycle
  • transfer completion status codes
  • last status-change timestamp
  • file transfer trap notifications
