Description: Manages PairGain DSL PVC service configuration, ATM virtual circuit parameters, and service provisioning status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PVC-SERVICE-MIB?

PVC-SERVICE-MIB is a PairGain Technologies (later part of the ADC/Westell DSL product line) MIB used to manage Permanent Virtual Circuit (PVC) service provisioning on DSL access equipment, covering both DSL subscriber service records and the underlying ATM virtual circuit parameters. It exposes configuration data describing each subscriber's DSL service assignment - subscriber name, service type, MAC address, IP address and subnet mask - along with ATM PVC parameters such as VPI values for the service access rows. Rather than hardware health, this MIB's monitoring value is in configuration/provisioning status: the row status objects reveal whether a subscriber's service or PVC entry is active, provisioned, or in an inconsistent state, which is useful for tracking DSL service activation and fault isolation. It depends conceptually on standard ATM and DSL-related concepts (VPI/VCI addressing) though it does not appear to formally import from ATM-MIB. It is typically deployed by DSL access equipment operators (COs, ISPs) managing PairGain/ADC DSL access multiplexers provisioning subscriber PVC-based services. Engineers can download the PVC-SERVICE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PVC-SERVICE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • PairGain/ADC DSL access multiplexers and DSL CPE

Monitoring Examples

An operator would walk pgXdslServiceTable/pgXdslServiceEntry to see each subscriber's pgXdslServiceSubscriberName, pgXdslServiceType, pgXdslServiceIpAddress, and pgXdslServiceMacAddress, then check pgXdslServiceRowStatus to confirm the service row is active rather than notReady or notInService. Cross-checking pgPvcServiceTable/pgPvcServiceEntry and pgPvcServiceSarVpi would reveal whether the ATM PVC underlying that subscriber's service is correctly provisioned, exposing a misconfigured or orphaned PVC if the VPI value does not match the expected provisioning plan.

What Can Be Monitored

  • subscriber service provisioning status
  • DSL service type per subscriber
  • subscriber IP/MAC address assignment
  • ATM PVC VPI configuration
  • service/PVC row status (active/provisioned)
