Description: Manages router control protocol configuration and operational statistics on D-Link network devices.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is RCP-MIB?
RCP-MIB (Remote Copy Protocol client MIB) is a D-Link enterprise switch MIB that manages the device's RCP client, used to transfer files such as firmware images or configuration files to and from a remote RCP server. Rather than performance counters, it exposes management/configuration objects grouped under swRCPMgmt for specifying the RCP server, remote filename, and initiating a transfer operation. Its relevance to device monitoring is around software status: it lets an administrator confirm firmware or configuration upload/download operations complete successfully, which is a key part of tracking software version management and configuration backup/restore health on the switch. It has no dependency on other standard MIBs beyond the underlying RCP file-transfer protocol itself. It is typically used on D-Link managed switches during firmware upgrades or configuration backup/restore procedures rather than for continuous runtime monitoring. Engineers can download the RCP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RCP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- D-Link managed switches
Monitoring Examples
swRCPMgmt is the top-level management object under which an administrator would configure the target RCP server address, remote file path, and trigger a firmware or configuration transfer. Polling the transfer status/result objects beneath swRCPMgmt (not enumerated in the available sample) would tell an operator whether an upgrade completed successfully or failed partway, which is important before rebooting the switch into new firmware. Because only the swRCPMgmt root object is confirmed here, more granular per-transfer object names cannot be stated with certainty from the given sample.
What Can Be Monitored
- RCP file transfer status
- configured RCP server address
- firmware/configuration transfer trigger and result
