What Is RBTWS-REGISTRATION-MIB?

RBTWS-REGISTRATION-MIB is an Enterasys Networks MIB for the RoamAbout wireless LAN controller product family, primarily establishing the OID registration tree for RoamAbout wireless switch products. Despite its "registration" naming, the sample objects show it also carries chassis hardware component objects for the wireless switch, covering power supplies and cooling fans. It is used for hardware status monitoring: rbtwsChasCompPowerSupplies and the indexed rbtwsChasCompPowerSupply1/rbtwsChasCompPowerSupply2 objects report the presence/health of redundant power supplies, while rbtwsChasCompFans and rbtwsChasCompFan1 report cooling fan status, both of which are classic chassis-health indicators for a rack-mounted wireless controller. It depends on Enterasys's broader chassis-component MIB conventions used across their switching and wireless controller lines. It is deployed in enterprise wireless LAN environments using Enterasys/RoamAbout wireless switches where physical chassis health needs to be tracked alongside wireless service, using the RBTWS-REGISTRATION-MIB OID tree to identify each component being monitored.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RBTWS-REGISTRATION-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Enterasys (now Extreme Networks) RoamAbout RBT-8100/8200/8400 wireless switches

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll rbtwsChasCompPowerSupply1 and rbtwsChasCompPowerSupply2 to confirm both power feeds are healthy in a redundant-supply deployment, and check rbtwsChasCompFan1 (and other fan indices under rbtwsChasCompFans) to detect a failed cooling fan before the controller overheats. A power supply reporting a failed or absent state would be a priority alert since RoamAbout controllers typically serve many access points that depend on that chassis staying up.

What Can Be Monitored

  • power supply presence/status
  • redundant power supply health
  • cooling fan status
