What Is RBTWS-AP-STATUS-MIB?

RBTWS-AP-STATUS-MIB is an Enterasys Networks vendor MIB that reports the operational status of access points (APs) managed by a RoamAbout wireless switch, referred to in the module as the AC (Access Controller). It exposes an AP status table (rbtwsApStatApStatusTable, indexed by serial number, with a MAC-indexed mirror table) carrying AP state, model, hardware/software/boot versions, IP address, uptime, client session count, and manufacturer/CPU info; a per-radio status table (rbtwsApStatRadioStatusTable) with power level, channel number, channel width, MIMO state, and PHY type; and per-SSID radio-service tables mapping BSSID and service-profile names, plus operational rate-set tables (mandatory/disabled rates, beacon/multicast rates) per radio service. This is useful for monitoring AP reachability and radio configuration drift across a wireless deployment — verifying that APs remain in the 'ALIVE' state, that client session counts are within expected bounds, and that configured channel/power settings match policy. It is deployed on Enterasys RoamAbout wireless LAN controllers managing directly- or network-attached access points. Administrators auditing Enterasys wireless deployments can reference the RBTWS-AP-STATUS-MIB MIB definitions when building AP health dashboards.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RBTWS-AP-STATUS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Enterasys RoamAbout wireless LAN controllers and managed access points

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls rbtwsApStatApStatusApState and rbtwsApStatApStatusClientSessions for each AP serial number to confirm APs remain in the alive state with expected session counts, then checks rbtwsApStatRadioStatusCurrentPowerLevel against rbtwsApStatRadioStatusMaxPowerLevel; a radio reporting a power level unexpectedly below its configured maximum, combined with a dropping client-session count, would flag a radio or RF environment problem on that AP.

What Can Be Monitored

  • AP alive/attach state and uptime
  • AP hardware/software/boot version
  • client session counts per AP and per radio
  • radio power level, channel number, and channel width
  • MIMO state and PHY type per radio
  • SSID/BSSID-to-service-profile mapping

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using rbtwsApStatRadioOpStatsTxUniPkt OID:

Select an Enterasys RoamAbout wireless LAN controller and managed access point (AP status/radio/SSID reporting) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type rbtwsApStatRadioOpStatsTxUniPkt into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. It reports the number of unicast packets transmitted. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter64-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
