Description: Provides extended ATM traffic profile configuration and QoS parameter management on Redback SmartEdge BRAS platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RBN-X-ATM-PROFILE-MIB?

RBN-X-ATM-PROFILE-MIB is a Redback Networks (Ericsson) enterprise MIB for SmartEdge edge routers/BRAS platforms that extends ATM traffic profile (traffic descriptor) configuration beyond what standard ATM MIBs cover. It exposes objects describing ATM service categories and profile parameters used to define QoS behavior for ATM virtual circuits, mirroring proposed additions to the IETF's revised ATM-MIB (atmTrafficDescrParamTable). This is primarily a configuration/QoS-parameter MIB rather than a hardware-health MIB -- it is useful for verifying that ATM traffic-shaping profiles are provisioned as intended rather than for tracking uptime, temperature, or CPU/memory. It explicitly mirrors and is expected to be superseded by the IETF's revised ATM-MIB (draft-ietf-atommib-atm1ng, successor to RFC 1695). It is deployed in service-provider ATM/DSL aggregation networks on Redback/Ericsson SmartEdge platforms, where RBN-X-ATM-PROFILE-MIB SNMP monitoring works alongside the AAL5 VCL statistics MIB to manage and verify per-circuit QoS.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RBN-X-ATM-PROFILE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Redback/Ericsson SmartEdge BRAS with ATM interfaces

Monitoring Examples

An operator would inspect rbnXAtmProfileTable (rbnXAtmProfileEntry) and its rbnXAtmServiceCategory object to confirm that an ATM virtual circuit is provisioned with the correct service category (e.g., CBR, VBR, UBR) and associated traffic parameters. This is typically a configuration-verification check rather than a live-anomaly monitor: a mismatch between the expected and actual rbnXAtmServiceCategory value would explain unexpected traffic shaping or discard behavior on a subscriber's ATM PVC.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ATM traffic profile/service category configuration
  • ATM QoS traffic descriptor parameters
