What Is RBN-IPPOOL-MIB?

RBN-IPPOOL-MIB is an Ericsson (Redback) SmartEdge enterprise MIB that manages IP address pools used to assign addresses to subscriber sessions on BRAS and edge router platforms. It exposes per-interface pool configuration and utilization data, including pool address range, mask, and size, plus real-time usage counters for available, unusable, and in-use addresses. Though address-pool-centric rather than classic hardware sensors, it directly supports operational software monitoring by allowing administrators to track pool exhaustion via threshold and trap objects, revealing when a subscriber-facing service is at risk of running out of addresses. It is an Ericsson enterprise-specific MIB with no explicit dependency on IETF standard MIBs beyond standard SNMP SMI conventions, though it references interface names similar to the standard IF-MIB. It is typically deployed on SmartEdge multi-service edge routers serving broadband/DSL/cable subscriber populations where address pool capacity planning is critical. Monitoring Examples

An operator polls rbnIpPoolTable/rbnIpPoolEntry, keyed by rbnIpPoolInterfaceIdx, to read rbnIpPoolSize versus rbnIpPoolAvailable, rbnIpPoolInuse, and rbnIpPoolUnusable for each rbnIpPoolInterfaceName, watching for a pool approaching exhaustion. When rbnIpPoolAvailable falls below rbnIpPoolThreshold, the agent can be configured via rbnIpPoolSendTrap to fire a notification so operators can provision additional address space before new subscriber sessions are rejected. rbnIpPoolAddr and rbnIpPoolMask let the admin confirm the pool's actual CIDR range matches provisioning records.

Additionally, the action of sending the trap and/or log message is subject to the values of rbnIpPoolSendTrap and rbnIpPoolLogMessage. A value of zero means there is no threshold.
