Module: RAPID-CITY

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.2272.1.21.0.117

Node type: NOTIFICATION-TYPE

Description: A rcMstpNewCistRoottrap signifies that the SNMPv2 entity, acting in an agent role, has detected the Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol has declared the device to be the new root of the common internal spanning tree.

What is rcnMstpNewCistRoot?

This trap notification indicates that the Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP) has elected the device as the new root bridge of the Common and Internal Spanning Tree (CIST). The root bridge is responsible for computing the network topology and forwarding tree to prevent switching loops. Network operators receive this trap during network topology changes and use it to verify that spanning tree recalculation completed successfully and the expected device became the root.

Examples

Send this trap to an SNMP manager — replace <manager> with the IP or hostname of your monitoring server (SNMPv2c):

snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' RAPID-CITY::rcnMstpNewCistRoot
snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' 1.3.6.1.4.1.2272.1.21.0.117

Listen for incoming traps on the manager host (-f keeps it in the foreground, -Lo prints to stdout — useful for testing):

snmptrapd -f -Lo -c /dev/null authCommunity log public

Example snmptrapd log entry:
