rcTengDot3StatsInternalMacReceiveErrors

Module: RAPID-CITY

OID (symbolic): RAPID-CITY::rcTengDot3StatsInternalMacReceiveErrors

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.2272.1.50.1.1.1.16

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Counter64

Access: read-only

Description: A count of frames for which reception on a particular interface fails due to an internal MAC sublayer receive error. A frame is only counted by an instance of this object if it is not counted by the corresponding instance of either the rcTengDot3StatsFrameTooLongs object, the rcTengDot3StatsAlignmentErrors object, or the rcTengDot3StatsFCSErrors object.

The precise meaning of the count represented by an instance of this object is implementation- specific. In particular, an instance of this object may represent a count of receive errors on a particular interface that are not otherwise counted.

What is rcTengDot3StatsInternalMacReceiveErrors?

This OID counts frames dropped due to internal hardware errors in the network interface's MAC layer. It indicates hardware reliability issues independent of bad data or corruption. A network operator monitors this counter to detect failing network hardware—a steady increase signals time to replace the interface card.
