Description: Extends Rapid-City MIB with Nortel BayStack-specific switch configuration and status objects.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is RAPID-CITY-BAY-STACK?
RAPID-CITY-BAY-STACK is a Nortel Networks enterprise MIB that extends the base RAPID-CITY MIB with BayStack-specific objects for Nortel/Avaya BayStack switches, covering TFTP-based firmware/config actions and secure SSH session management. It exposes operational and security-related data including active SSH session tables (with source IP and session ID) and the status of the switch's SSH DSA host key, alongside a TFTP action trigger for firmware or configuration transfer. Its monitoring value spans both software status and security posture: rcBayStackSshSessionTable reveals who is currently managing the switch over SSH, and rcBayStackSshDsaHostKeyStatus confirms whether the switch's SSH host key is properly generated, which affects secure management access. It explicitly builds on and extends the base RAPID-CITY-MIB, sharing its enterprise tree and conventions. It is deployed on Nortel/Avaya BayStack Ethernet switches in enterprise wiring-closet and campus network environments. Engineers can download the RAPID-CITY-BAY-STACK file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RAPID-CITY-BAY-STACK. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Nortel/Avaya BayStack Ethernet switch
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll rcBayStackSshSessionTable/rcBayStackSshSessionEntry to see active management sessions, checking rcBayStackSshSessionIp/rcBayStackSshSessionInetAddress against an expected list of admin workstations to catch unauthorized SSH access. rcBayStackSshDsaHostKeyStatus would be checked after a configuration change to confirm the switch's host key is valid, since a missing or regenerating key can break SSH connectivity. rcBayStackTftpAction is used to trigger firmware or config transfers, and unexpected activity on this object outside a maintenance window would itself be a signal worth investigating.
What Can Be Monitored
- active SSH session list and source IP
- SSH DSA host key status
- TFTP action trigger state
