Description: Raisecom loopback detection MIB for identifying Layer 2 loops per port and VLAN, reporting offending MAC addresses via traps on Raisecom switches

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RAISECOM-LBDETECT-MIB?

RAISECOM-LBDETECT-MIB is a private MIB from Raisecom for Layer 2 loopback (loop) detection, identifying network loops on a per-port and per-VLAN basis and reporting offending MAC addresses via traps. It exposes configuration for loop detection mode, interval, restore time, and destination address, plus per-port enable/status objects and trap definitions. This is a fault-detection MIB used to monitor the software/network health of the switch's Layer 2 forwarding, specifically catching conditions (physical loops) that can cause broadcast storms and degrade device and network performance. It is a vendor-specific loop-detection feature with no dependency on a standards-track MIB. It is typically deployed on Raisecom access switches in networks where accidental or malicious Ethernet loops are a risk. Engineers can download the RAISECOM-LBDETECT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RAISECOM-LBDETECT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Raisecom access switches

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would check rcLbDetectPortTable entries for rcPortLbDetectEnable status per port, and monitor for rcLbDetectTrap notifications that fire when a loop is detected on a port/VLAN combination identified via rcLbDetectVlan. The rcLbDetectRestoreTime setting determines how long a port stays disabled after a loop is found before rcLbDetectMode allows it to automatically recover, and repeated traps from the same port would reveal a persistent cabling or configuration loop.

What Can Be Monitored

  • loop detection enable per port
  • loop detection interval and restore time
  • detected loop VLAN and offending MAC
  • loop detection mode (block/alert)
  • loop detection trap events

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using rcPortLbDetectBlockCount OID:

Select a Raisecom access switch as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type rcPortLbDetectBlockCount into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the how many times this port was blocked. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the count changes from its expected baseline, since that would indicate the underlying set of items changed unexpectedly. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
