Description: Configures GARP protocol timers and port participation for attribute registration.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RAISECOM-GARP-MIB?

RAISECOM-GARP-MIB is a Raisecom enterprise MIB module that manages GARP (Generic Attribute Registration Protocol) along with its application protocols GVRP (GARP VLAN Registration Protocol) and GMRP (GARP Multicast Registration Protocol) on Raisecom switches. It exposes configuration objects for GARP protocol timers (join, leave, leave-all) per port, GVRP global status and maximum VLAN count, and per-port statistics-clear controls for GVRP/GMRP counters. As a monitoring/management resource it is used to track the software configuration state of dynamic VLAN/multicast-group registration (whether GVRP is enabled, current timer values) and to reset accumulated protocol statistics, rather than exposing hardware sensor data. It is closely tied to and dependent on IEEE 802.1D/802.1Q GARP/GVRP/GMRP standards and typically complements the device's VLAN (Q-BRIDGE-MIB) and bridge MIBs for full VLAN topology context. It is deployed on Raisecom access/aggregation switches in metro-Ethernet or enterprise networks that rely on dynamic VLAN and multicast group registration across trunk links. Engineers can download the RAISECOM-GARP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RAISECOM-GARP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Raisecom access/aggregation switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll raisecomGarpPortTable/raisecomGarpPortEntry to check raisecomGarpPortJoinTime, raisecomGarpPortLeaveTime, and raisecomGarpPortLeaveAllTime per port, confirming GARP timers are consistent across a trunk to avoid VLAN registration flapping. Checking raisecomGvrpStatus and raisecomGvrpMaxVlan confirms whether GVRP is globally enabled and how many VLANs it can dynamically register, while raisecomGvrpPortStatisticClear/raisecomGmrpPortStatisticClear let an operator reset per-port protocol counters after diagnosing a registration storm or misbehaving neighbor switch.

What Can Be Monitored

  • GARP join/leave/leave-all timers per port
  • GVRP enable status and max VLAN count
  • GVRP/GMRP per-port statistics

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using raisecomGvrpPortFailedRegistrations OID:

Select a Raisecom access/aggregation switch (GARP/GVRP/GMRP) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type raisecomGvrpPortFailedRegistrations into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The total number of failed GVRP registrations, for any reason, on this port. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases between polls, since a rising count of errors, failures, or discards often points to a real underlying problem. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
