This read-write object controls how an Ethernet interface forwards frames, choosing between filtered (standard bridging with learning) or transparent (all frames pass through) bridging modes. In filtered mode, the bridge learns source MAC addresses and builds a forwarding database; in transparent mode, the interface acts like a passive repeater. Network operators select the bridging mode based on whether the interface should participate in network spanning-tree topology or simply pass traffic through without making switching decisions.
