Category: Storage

Description: Monitors Pure Storage all-flash array capacity utilization, I/O performance metrics, data reduction ratios, and hardware health.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PURESTORAGE-MIB?

PURESTORAGE-MIB is Pure Storage's official enterprise MIB for its all-flash storage arrays (FlashArray family), placing it in the enterprise storage-array management technology area. It exposes performance and capacity metrics (read/write bandwidth, IOPS, latency), data-reduction ratio statistics, and array/host alert information, alongside basic product identity fields. Its monitoring value spans both software and hardware status -- alert objects (pureAlertCode, pureAlertSubject, pureAlertBody) surface hardware and system-health faults directly, while the performance counters reveal whether the array's controllers and flash media are servicing I/O within expected latency and throughput bounds. It is a self-contained vendor MIB with no stated dependency on other standard MIBs beyond basic SNMPv2/v3 SMI conventions. It is deployed by storage administrators monitoring Pure Storage FlashArray systems in enterprise or cloud data centers via SNMP alongside Pure's native management tools. Engineers can download the PURESTORAGE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PURESTORAGE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Pure Storage FlashArray all-flash storage arrays

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll pureArrayReadLatency alongside pureArrayReadIOPS and pureArrayReadBandwidth to detect whether the array is experiencing abnormal read latency under a given I/O load, and would do the equivalent for write performance. Subscribing to alerts carrying pureAlertCode, pureAlertSubject, and pureAlertBody would surface hardware or capacity events (e.g. a failed drive or a full pool) as they occur, with pureAlertReminder re-notifying on unacknowledged conditions. Checking pureProductName and pureProductVersion confirms which array model and Purity OS version is being monitored when correlating an alert against known issues.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using pureArrayReadBandwidth OID:

Select a Pure Storage all-flash storage array as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type pureArrayReadBandwidth into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. It reports the array Read Bandwidth (bytes/s). On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an Integer32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value drifts significantly from its normal baseline, since an unexpected change often points to a real underlying issue. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
