Description: Monitors overall system health, component inventory, and cluster status on Panasas parallel storage systems.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PANASAS-SYSTEM-MIB-V1?

PANASAS-SYSTEM-MIB-V1 is a Panasas enterprise MIB for monitoring overall system health and cluster composition on Panasas ActiveStor parallel storage/clustered NAS systems. It exposes cluster-level identity data (cluster name, management address) along with tables describing the cluster's replication set (repset) members and the services running on each blade, each keyed to a blade's hardware serial number. Its monitoring focus is on hardware and service status across the storage cluster: tracking which blades (by hardware serial number) belong to the replication set and which management/storage services are running on each blade, so an operator can detect a blade that has dropped out of the repset or a service that has stopped running on a given blade. Being a self-contained storage-cluster MIB, it primarily depends on Panasas's own cluster architecture rather than external IETF MIBs. It is deployed in Panasas ActiveStor storage cluster environments (HPC and enterprise scale-out storage) for cluster health and blade-service monitoring. Engineers can download the PANASAS-SYSTEM-MIB-V1 file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PANASAS-SYSTEM-MIB-V1. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Panasas ActiveStor parallel storage / clustered NAS systems

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll panSystemClusterRepsetTable/panSystemClusterRepsetEntry, indexed by panSystemClusterRepsetEntryIndex, to read panSystemClusterRepsetEntryIpAddr and panSystemClusterRepsetEntryBladeHwSN for each blade in the replication set, confirming all expected blades are present and reachable. panSystemServicesTable/panSystemServicesEntry, keyed by panSystemServicesId and linked to panSystemServicesBladeHwSN, shows panSystemServicesType for each running service, letting the operator spot a blade where an expected storage or management service is missing or has stopped. Comparing panSystemClusterManagementAddress against the expected cluster management endpoint confirms the correct cluster is being polled, important in multi-cluster environments.

What Can Be Monitored

  • cluster replication set (repset) membership
  • blade hardware serial number presence
  • per-blade service status
  • cluster management address
  • blade IP reachability
