Description: Manages Ericsson MINI-LINK microwave radio fault management including alarm reporting and fault condition tracking.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PT-FM-MIB?

PT-FM-MIB is an Ericsson MINI-LINK microwave radio transmission MIB dedicated to fault management ("FM"), covering alarm reporting and fault-condition tracking for point-to-point microwave radio links. Rather than exposing performance counters directly, it centers on logs and notification configuration: notificationConfig, alarmLog, tmnNotificationLog, eventLog, and protectionSwitchLog. Its core monitoring value is fault/status visibility — alarmLog and eventLog give a running history of hardware fault conditions on the radio link (e.g. signal degradation, hardware failure), while protectionSwitchLog specifically tracks redundancy failover events, critical for microwave links that rely on protection switching between primary and backup radio paths to maintain uptime. The "tmn" naming in tmnNotificationLog signals dependency on ITU-T's Telecommunications Management Network (TMN) alarm/notification conventions commonly used in Ericsson transport MIBs. It is typically deployed on Ericsson MINI-LINK microwave radio equipment in telecom backhaul networks where link fault history and protection-switching behavior must be tracked for SLA and reliability reporting. Engineers can download the PT-FM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PT-FM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ericsson MINI-LINK microwave radio transmission equipment

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll alarmLog and eventLog to review the fault history of a MINI-LINK radio hop, checking for recurring entries that indicate an intermittent hardware or path problem, and inspect protectionSwitchLog to see how often the link has failed over to its protection path — frequent switchovers would indicate a degrading primary radio unit or antenna alignment issue. notificationConfig would be checked to confirm trap destinations are correctly set so new alarms are actually delivered to the NMS.

What Can Be Monitored

  • alarm log history
  • fault event log
  • protection switchover events
  • notification/trap configuration
