Category: Wireless and Radio

Description: Manages firmware upgrade operations, image staging, and upgrade status for Ruckus Wireless devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RUCKUS-UPGRADE-MIB?

RUCKUS-UPGRADE-MIB is a vendor-specific SNMP module from Ruckus Wireless (now part of CommScope) for managing firmware upgrade operations on Ruckus wireless access points and controllers. It exposes objects controlling file transfer method and credentials (FTP host, username/password), control-file naming, triggering an immediate upgrade, and automatic-upgrade check-interval and status settings. This is a software-status/lifecycle monitoring MIB rather than a general hardware-health one: ruckusAutoUpgradeStatus reports the current state of an automated firmware check/upgrade process, and ruckusFileTransferUpgradeNow/ruckusFileTransferTakeEffectImmediately reflect whether an upgrade has been triggered and applied, giving visibility into firmware version currency and upgrade success/failure across a device fleet. It relies on standard file-transfer protocol conventions (FTP/TFTP) rather than other SNMP MIBs for the actual transfer mechanism. Typical deployment context is enterprise or service-provider Wi-Fi environments where administrators remotely manage firmware rollout across many Ruckus APs/controllers via SNMP, using the RUCKUS-UPGRADE-MIB MIB to trigger and confirm each upgrade.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RUCKUS-UPGRADE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ruckus Wireless access point/wireless LAN controller

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would set ruckusFileTransferHostAddr, ruckusFileTransferFTPUsername, and ruckusFileTransferControlFileName, then trigger ruckusFileTransferUpgradeNow to push a new firmware image, polling ruckusAutoUpgradeStatus afterward to confirm success or detect a failed upgrade. Monitoring ruckusAutoUpgradeCheckInterval and ruckusAutoUpgradeInitialCheckInterval helps verify the device's automatic update-check cadence is configured as expected across a fleet. An unexpected ruckusAutoUpgradeStatus value (e.g. stuck "in progress" or "failed") would flag an AP that didn't complete its firmware update.

What Can Be Monitored

  • firmware upgrade status
  • auto-upgrade check interval
  • upgrade trigger/take-effect state
  • file transfer method and target host
