Category: Server Hardware Monitoring, Storage

Description: Provides NEC ESMPRO ServerAgents trap notifications for Windows disk drive hardware fault and S.M.A.R.T. alert events.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PSA-WinDiskTrap-MIB?

PSA-WinDiskTrap-MIB is part of NEC's ESMPRO ServerAgent suite, defining SNMP trap notifications specifically for Windows-based server disk-drive hardware faults, including S.M.A.R.T. predictive-failure alerts. Rather than exposing pollable status tables, it is a trap/notification-oriented module that fires events describing a specific failing disk partition or unit — its identity, the event severity level, and a "suspect" flag indicating the drive is suspected faulty. Its entire purpose is hardware fault monitoring: it lets an NEC server's management agent proactively notify an SNMP trap receiver the moment a disk shows S.M.A.R.T. warning signs or an outright I/O/partition fault, well before the disk fully fails. It is an NEC ESMPRO-specific extension that pairs with the broader ESMPRO ServerAgent MIB family for full hardware health monitoring on NEC servers. It is deployed on NEC Windows servers running ESMPRO ServerAgent, feeding disk-health traps into an enterprise NMS or ESMPRO Manager console. Engineers can download the PSA-WinDiskTrap-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PSA-WinDiskTrap-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Fujitsu PRIMEQUEST server partition, Windows (disk drive/S.M.A.R.T. fault traps)

Monitoring Examples

A management station would register to receive this MIB's traps and, on receipt, read trapPartitionName/trapPartitionId and trapUnitName to identify which disk/partition triggered the event, trapEventLevel and trapEventId to gauge severity and event type, and trapSuspect together with trapModelNo/trapSerialNo to pinpoint the specific suspect drive by model and serial number for replacement. A rising frequency of traps with trapSuspect set for the same trapSerialNo strongly indicates an imminent disk failure needing proactive replacement.

What Can Be Monitored

  • disk/partition fault trap events
  • S.M.A.R.T. suspect-drive alerts
  • disk unit/model/serial identification
  • event severity level
