Category: Server Hardware Monitoring

Description: Provides NEC ESMPRO ServerAgents trap notifications for InfiniBand HCA driver fault and link state events on Linux.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PSA-LinIbTrap-MIB?

PSA-LinIbTrap-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from NEC's ESMPRO ServerAgent software, defining SNMP trap notifications for InfiniBand Host Channel Adapter (HCA) driver events on Linux servers. It exposes trap payload objects rather than pollable tables — fields identifying the event's severity level and event ID, the physical/logical unit involved, the InfiniBand partition, and hardware identification such as model number, part number, stepping, and serial number. This MIB is squarely focused on hardware fault monitoring: it alerts administrators to InfiniBand HCA and link-state faults so that a failing HCA card or degraded InfiniBand fabric link can be identified by its exact serial/model/part number without manual inspection. As a trap-only MIB from NEC's server management agent suite, it depends on and complements NEC ESMPRO's broader server hardware management MIB set and the standard SNMP enterprise trap mechanism. It is typically deployed on NEC Express5800/rack servers running Linux with InfiniBand HCAs in HPC or clustered server environments monitored by NEC ESMPRO ServerAgent. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the PSA-LinIbTrap-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PSA-LinIbTrap-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Fujitsu PRIMEQUEST server partition, Linux, InfiniBand HCA (driver fault traps)

Monitoring Examples

When an InfiniBand HCA driver detects a fault, it emits a trap carrying trapEventLevel and trapEventId identifying the severity and nature of the problem, trapUnitName and trapPartitionName/trapPartitionId identifying which server/IB partition is affected, and trapModelNo/trapSerialNo/trapPartNo/trapStepping pinpointing the exact HCA hardware unit. An admin receiving such a trap with trapSuspect set would know exactly which physical adapter to inspect or replace. Because this MIB defines trap objects rather than a polled MIB tree, monitoring means listening for these traps at an NMS trap receiver rather than periodic polling.

What Can Be Monitored

  • InfiniBand HCA fault event level
  • event ID/type
  • affected IB partition
  • affected server unit
  • HCA hardware identification (model, part, serial number)
