What Is PRVT-EPS-MIB?
PRVT-EPS-MIB is a BATM Advanced Communication (Telco Systems T-Metro Switches) private MIB that models Ethernet Linear Protection Switching per ITU-T G.8031, managing 1+1/1:1 working-and-protection path pairs for Carrier Ethernet services. Its central prvtEpsServiceTable, indexed by prvtEpsSvcId, exposes configuration objects such as CFM maintenance-domain level and primary/secondary local and remote MEP IDs (prvtEpsServiceCfmMdLevel, prvtEpsServicePrimaryLocalCfmMep, etc.), revertive/non-revertive behavior and hold-off/wait-to-restore timers (prvtEpsServiceRevertive, prvtEpsServiceHoldOffTimer, prvtEpsServiceWaitToRestoreTimer), and operational state objects like prvtEpsServiceActivePath (working vs. protection), prvtEpsServiceLocalState/RemoteState (using the PrvtEpsProtectionStateType enumeration of APS states such as signalFail, signalDegrade, and forcedSwitch), and prvtEpsServiceDefectsPresent bit flags for provisioning mismatches. Action objects (prvtEpsServiceClear, prvtEpsServiceManualSwitch, prvtEpsServiceForcedSwitch, prvtEpsServiceLockout) let an operator directly command a protection switchover, while a family of NOTIFICATION-TYPEs (prvtEpsSwitchoverAlarm, prvtEpsLostCommunication, prvtEpsSignalFailDetected/Recovery, prvtEpsSignalDegradeDetected/Recovery) report state changes as they occur. It depends on PRVT-SWITCH-MIB for its registration point under the switch subtree and on the ITU-T G.8031 APS concepts rather than any IETF MIB. It is deployed on BATM/Telco Systems T-Metro carrier Ethernet switches, and administrators can download the PRVT-EPS-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser before building dashboards around prvtEpsServiceActivePath and its associated defect/switchover traps.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PRVT-EPS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- BATM Advanced Communication / Telco Systems T-Metro carrier Ethernet switches
Monitoring Examples
An operator polls prvtEpsServiceActivePath and prvtEpsServiceDefectsPresent for a given prvtEpsSvcId to confirm traffic is riding the working path with no provisioning mismatches, and watches for a prvtEpsSwitchoverAlarm notification; a switchover combined with prvtEpsServiceProtectionCounter incrementing repeatedly would indicate a flapping or degraded working path forcing traffic onto protection.
What Can Be Monitored
- active path (working vs protection)
- protection switchover count
- CFM-based signal fail / signal degrade detection
- APS defect flags (provisioning/configuration mismatches)
- local/remote protection state (per G.8031 APS states)
- manual/forced switch and lockout command status
