Description: Manages BATM Advanced Communication IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) OAM link monitoring and loopback.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PRVT-EFM-OAM-MIB?

PRVT-EFM-OAM-MIB is a vendor MIB from BATM Advanced Communication extending IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) OAM link monitoring beyond what the standard DOT3-OAM-MIB provides, adding proprietary configuration, timers, and loopback control. It exposes link-level OAM configuration (enable state, timers, priority) and event/history data for OAM PDU exchange and remote fault events. Its monitoring value is centered on link health and software protocol status: administrators can see whether OAM is active, track remote fault events, and review historical event counts to spot an unstable or flapping first-mile Ethernet link. It explicitly depends on and extends the standard DOT3-OAM-MIB, since it fills gaps not covered by that IETF standard. It is deployed on BATM Advanced Communication access/aggregation switches used in carrier Ethernet first-mile links where OAM visibility into the physical link is required. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the PRVT-EFM-OAM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PRVT-EFM-OAM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • BATM Advanced Communication access/aggregation switch

Monitoring Examples

An admin would check prvtEfmOamEnable and prvtEfmOamRemoteEvent to confirm OAM is active and see if the remote end has reported a fault, while prvtEfmOamHistoryCount and prvtEfmOamPacketSent give insight into PDU exchange volume and event history. A spike in prvtEfmOamRemoteEvent combined with prvtEfmOamHistoryCount growing rapidly would indicate a flapping or degrading first-mile Ethernet link. Adjusting prvtEfmOamKeepAliveInterval and prvtEfmOamHelloInterval lets an operator tune detection sensitivity for that link.

What Can Be Monitored

  • EFM OAM enable status
  • remote OAM event/fault reports
  • OAM history event count
  • OAM keepalive/hello interval settings
  • OAM packets sent
