Description: Manages the 3Com Presley platform network device, providing system configuration and interface management objects.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PRESLEY-MIB?

PRESLEY-MIB is a proprietary 3Com MIB for the Presley network device platform, providing general system configuration and interface management objects alongside a dedicated alerting subsystem. No formal MODULE-IDENTITY description text was present in the source, but the object names indicate the module centers on device alerts and interface/system configuration. Its clearest monitoring value is hardware/software fault status: an alertTable of alert entries (each with an identifier, description, status, and type) combined with an alertLedState object suggests this MIB tracks active device alarms and reflects them via a front-panel alert LED. There is no evident dependency on other MIBs beyond standard 3Com enterprise conventions (the a3Com and generic branches). It would have been deployed on 3Com Presley-branded switches or access devices in enterprise network environments, where PRESLEY-MIB SNMP monitoring of the alertTable would surface hardware faults reflected by the front-panel alert LED.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PRESLEY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • 3Com Presley network device
  • 3Com switch/access device

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll alertTable, walking each alertTableEntry to read alertDescription, alertStatus, and alertType, thereby seeing exactly which fault conditions are currently active on the device without needing physical access. alertLedState mirrors the aggregate alert state that would be visible on the unit's physical LED, letting a remote poller infer whether the device currently shows a visible hardware alarm. A newly appearing entry in alertTable with an active alertStatus would indicate a fault has just occurred and needs investigation.

What Can Be Monitored

  • active device alerts
  • alert type/description
  • alert status
  • alert LED state
