Category: Network Management

Description: Configures syslog server destinations, severity filters, and log-forwarding settings on Paradyne xDSL access equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PDN-SYSLOG-MIB?

PDN-SYSLOG-MIB is a Paradyne (PDN) vendor MIB for configuring syslog forwarding on Paradyne xDSL access equipment, letting an operator define remote syslog server destinations, ports, severity thresholds, and per-entity logging settings. It exposes both scalar syslog configuration objects and a table (pdnSyslogTable, extended by pdnEntitySyslogTable) for per-entity syslog destinations in multi-entity chassis. This is a logging/configuration-status MIB: monitoring it confirms whether syslog forwarding is correctly configured and active (pdnSyslogStatus, pdnSyslogRemoteDaemon), which severity level is being filtered (pdnSyslogSeverityThreshold), and view recent logged messages (pdnSyslogMessage) directly from SNMP, which helps confirm log delivery is working without needing separate syslog server access. It depends on the standard Entity MIB for entity-indexed logging via pdnEntitySyslogTable in multi-slot/multi-entity systems. It is deployed on Paradyne xDSL access multiplexers/modems in telecom access networks. Engineers can download the PDN-SYSLOG-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PDN-SYSLOG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Paradyne (PDN) xDSL access multiplexer/modem

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll pdnSyslogIPAddr and pdnSyslogPort to confirm the configured syslog server destination, and check pdnSyslogStatus and pdnSyslogRemoteDaemon to verify forwarding is enabled and reaching the daemon. If expected log messages aren't arriving at the central syslog server, checking pdnSyslogSeverityThreshold for an overly restrictive filter level would explain missing lower-severity events. pdnSyslogTable/pdnSyslogEntry entries (pdnSyslogNumber, pdnSyslogMessage) could be read directly via SNMP to see recent log entries, and pdnEntitySyslogTable checked in a chassis with multiple entities to confirm each has its own destination configured.

What Can Be Monitored

  • syslog server IP address and port
  • syslog forwarding status
  • severity threshold filter
  • remote daemon reachability
  • recent syslog messages
  • per-entity syslog configuration
