What Is PDN-MPE-FILTER-MIB?

PDN-MPE-FILTER-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB for Paradyne's MPE (Multi-Protocol Engine) module, used in Paradyne/Zhone broadband access and DSL aggregation equipment. It defines packet filter and access-control-list objects that classify and act on IP traffic, including static and dynamic rule counts, default filter actions, and TCP-ACK/DHCP-specific filtering behavior. From a monitoring perspective it lets an operator confirm filter configuration state and health, such as the activation status of ACL entries and the count of active dynamic versus static rules, useful for validating that traffic-filtering security policy is correctly applied and enforced, and it also carries a trap group signaling filter-related events. It builds on standard SNMPv2 conventions such as RowStatus and notifications but otherwise has no heavy dependency on other MIBs. It would typically be deployed on Paradyne/Zhone access multiplexers or gateways at a service provider's network edge to manage and audit subscriber traffic filtering policy, and engineers can download the PDN-MPE-FILTER-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser for this purpose.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PDN-MPE-FILTER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Paradyne/Zhone MPE-based DSL/broadband access equipment

Monitoring Examples

An administrator could poll mpeSysDevIpFilterConfigTable / mpeSysDevIpFilterConfigTableEntry to see each configured filter's mpeSysDevIpFilterName, mpeSysDevIpDefFilterAction, and rule counts via mpeSysDevIpFilterNumOfDynamicRules and mpeSysDevIpFilterNumOfStaticRules. A sudden drop in mpeSysDevIpFilterNumOfDynamicRules could indicate a DHCP or learning issue clearing dynamic rules, while mpeSysDevIpFilterRowStatus lets the operator confirm a filter entry is active rather than notReady or destroyed. The related mpeSysDevIpFilterRuleConfigTable exposes the individual rule definitions applied under each named filter.

What Can Be Monitored

  • configured filter names
  • default filter action
  • count of dynamic rules
  • count of static rules
  • filter row/activation status
  • TCP-ACK and DHCP filter actions
