Category: Network Management

Description: Manages system clock configuration, NTP server settings, and time-zone parameters on Paradyne Networks xDSL devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PDN-DEVICE-TIME-MIB?

PDN-DEVICE-TIME-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Paradyne Networks for configuring and monitoring system date/time and NTP synchronization on its xDSL access equipment. It exposes the device's current date and time, the configured NTP server IP address, NTP operating mode, and an NTP synchronization status flag, along with associated trap definitions. Its monitoring emphasis is on software/system status - specifically confirming the device's clock is correctly synchronized to an NTP source (devNTPSynchronised), which matters because accurate timestamps underpin correlation of alarms, logs, and performance data across the access network. It is a small, focused enterprise MIB with no apparent dependency on standard IETF time-related MIBs, implementing its own NTP client status objects instead. It's deployed on Paradyne DSL access multiplexers and related xDSL equipment in telco networks where accurate time synchronization across many devices is operationally important, and a PDN-DEVICE-TIME-MIB download lets administrators load the module into their MIB browser to monitor it directly.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PDN-DEVICE-TIME-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Paradyne Networks xDSL access equipment

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll devNTPSynchronised to confirm a device has successfully locked to its configured devNTPServerIP, and check devDateAndTime to verify the resulting local clock value is correct; a device stuck with devNTPSynchronised false would indicate an NTP reachability or configuration problem reflected in devNTPMode. The devTimeMIBTraps notification group would alert the NMS if synchronization is lost after initially being established.
