Category: Network Management

Description: Monitors and manages Meritage network device configuration and operational state.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MERITAGE-MIB?

MERITAGE-MIB is a private enterprise MIB for Meritage network devices (chassis-based switching platforms) covering base-level chassis hardware management and status. It exposes clear hardware health objects: meritageBaseFanTable/meritageBaseFanEntry with per-fan activity status, meritageBasePSUTable/meritageBasePSUEntry with power supply unit identity and type, meritageBaseTemperatureExceed for over-temperature conditions, meritageBaseLEDs for front-panel indicator state, and meritageBaseFaultMask for fault masking/reporting configuration. This makes it squarely a hardware status/environmental-monitoring MIB: an operator uses it to confirm fans are spinning, power supplies are present and healthy, chassis temperature is within bounds, and to interpret front-panel LED/fault indications — classic redundant-hardware health checks for a chassis switch. It appears to be a self-contained private enterprise MIB layered over the vendor's base chassis architecture (meritageBaseXswitchConfiguration suggests an X-switch fabric configuration dependency). It is deployed on Meritage chassis switching platforms in data center or carrier environments where fan/PSU redundancy and thermal health are operationally critical, making MERITAGE-MIB SNMP monitoring a routine part of chassis health checks in these environments.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MERITAGE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Meritage chassis-based network switches

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll meritageBaseFanTable/meritageBaseFanEntry by meritageBaseFanId to check meritageBaseFanActivityStatus for each cooling fan, catching a failed or stalled fan before it causes thermal issues. In parallel, meritageBasePSUTable/meritageBasePSUEntry indexed by meritageBasePSUId with meritageBasePSUType would confirm both power supplies are installed and of the expected type, revealing a lost redundant PSU. A meritageBaseTemperatureExceed reading of true, combined with an active meritageBaseFaultMask bit, would indicate the chassis has crossed a thermal threshold requiring immediate attention.

What Can Be Monitored

  • fan activity status per fan
  • power supply unit presence and type
  • chassis over-temperature condition
  • front-panel LED status
  • fault mask/fault indications
  • switch fabric (Xswitch) configuration state
