What Is OGTRAPv2-MIB?
OGTRAPv2-MIB is an Opengear-proprietary MIB defining SNMPv2c notification (trap) objects for fault and event reporting on Opengear out-of-band console/management appliances. It exposes alarm-oriented data: an alarm table describing each raised alarm's identity, type, name, triggering value, associated device, and the user or event that caused it, feeding SNMP traps to a management station. Its monitoring value is centered on fault/event status: it lets an NMS learn in near real time when an alarm condition (e.g., environmental, connectivity, or configuration fault) occurs on the Opengear device, including which specific check triggered it and its severity/type. It works alongside Opengear's core management MIBs (referenced via the shared opengear/ogLegacyMgmt enterprise branch) since alarm objects reference indices and device identifiers defined elsewhere in the Opengear MIB set. It is deployed on Opengear console servers and remote-site out-of-band management gateways used by network operators to maintain access to infrastructure during outages. Engineers can download the OGTRAPv2-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in OGTRAPv2-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Opengear console servers and out-of-band management gateways
Monitoring Examples
A management station receiving a trap referencing ogAlarmTable would read ogAlarmIndex, ogAlarmEventId, ogAlarmName, and ogAlarmType to classify the fault, while ogAlarmTriggerValue and ogAlarmCheck show what threshold or check condition fired. ogAlarmDevice and ogAlarmInstance identify which physical port or subsystem raised the alarm, and ogAlarmTime/ogAlarmUser show when it occurred and whether it was user-triggered (e.g., a manual test) versus automatic. Seeing a spike of alarms with the same ogAlarmEventId across many ogAlarmDevice entries would suggest a systemic issue rather than an isolated fault.
What Can Be Monitored
- active alarm list
- alarm type/severity
- alarm trigger value
- affected device/port
- alarm timestamp and triggering user
