Description: Manages Nortel Magellan Passport NHRP next-hop resolution protocol configuration and cache state.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Nortel-Magellan-Passport-IpNhrpMIB?

This is a Nortel-specific MIB for the Magellan Passport multiservice switching platform, extending the standard NHRP (Next Hop Resolution Protocol) framework used for IP-over-NBMA networks such as ATM. It exposes configuration and status tables for NHRP-enabled logical interfaces, tracking row status, storage type, and component naming for each NHRP instance. Its monitoring value is mainly operational/administrative: it lets an operator confirm whether NHRP service components are active(1) or have fallen out of service, which is a software-configuration health check rather than a hardware sensor reading like temperature or CPU load. It depends on the standard NHRP concept (RFC 2332) and on the broader Nortel Magellan Passport enterprise MIB tree from which its virtual-router (vrPp/vrIp) naming is drawn. It is deployed on legacy Nortel Passport WAN switches used for ATM/Frame Relay-to-IP interworking in service-provider or enterprise backbone networks, largely legacy equipment today. Engineers can download the Nortel-Magellan-Passport-IpNhrpMIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Nortel-Magellan-Passport-IpNhrpMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nortel Magellan Passport multiservice WAN switch/router

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll vrIpNhrpRowStatusTable and vrPpIpPortLogicalIfNhrpIfRowStatusTable to confirm each NHRP-enabled logical interface component (identified via vrPpIpPortLogicalIfNhrpIfComponentName) reports an active row status; a value of notInService, or a StorageType of volatile after a reload, would reveal a lost or misconfigured NHRP mapping component. Because the available objects are limited to row-status/configuration tables rather than counters, this module is best used for confirming NHRP service presence and state rather than for performance-counter monitoring.

What Can Be Monitored

  • NHRP interface row status (active/notInService)
  • NHRP component storage type (volatile/nonVolatile)
  • NHRP-enabled logical interface index
  • virtual router NHRP component name
