Category: Frame Relay

Description: Manages Nortel Magellan Passport Frame Relay NNI interface configuration and inter-switch DLCI routing.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Nortel-Magellan-Passport-FrameRelayNniMIB?

This MIB manages Frame Relay NNI (network-to-network interface) configuration on Nortel Magellan Passport multiservice switches, used for inter-switch and inter-carrier DLCI routing across trunk-side interfaces. It exposes frNniStateTable carrying trunk admin/operational state, frNniCidDataTable for customer identifier assignments, and addressing objects (frNniDna) used in DLCI routing. Monitoring is centered on the operational state of NNI trunks and their customer-circuit mappings, since a down NNI trunk affects every DLCI routed over it. It depends on general Frame Relay NNI signaling conventions along with the shared Passport component/RowStatus framework. It is deployed on trunk-side interfaces linking Passport switches to each other or to peer carrier networks within a Frame Relay backbone. Engineers can download the Nortel-Magellan-Passport-FrameRelayNniMIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Nortel-Magellan-Passport-FrameRelayNniMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nortel Magellan Passport multiservice switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator reviews frNniStateTable/frNniStateEntry to check the state of an NNI trunk identified by frNniComponentName, and frNniCidDataTable/frNniCidDataEntry to confirm frNniCustomerIdentifier assignments riding over that trunk. frNniDna objects expose the addressing data used for inter-switch DLCI routing. An NNI trunk reporting an operational state of down means loss of frame relay connectivity between Passport nodes, affecting every DLCI routed over that trunk.

What Can Be Monitored

  • NNI trunk operational state
  • customer identifier per DLCI
  • inter-switch addressing data
  • component row status
