Description: Defines textual conventions for RF signal classification and rogue device types in Nortel NTWS detection MIBs.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is NTWS-RF-DETECT-TC?
NTWS-RF-DETECT-TC is a Nortel Networks Wireless Switch (NTWS) textual-conventions module that defines shared data types used by Nortel's wireless LAN switch RF security/detection MIBs, rather than a functional MIB with its own management objects. It establishes standardized enumerations and type definitions for classifying RF signals and rogue/interfering wireless devices detected by Nortel wireless switches and access points. As a pure textual-convention module it has no runtime data itself, and its monitoring relevance is indirect: it supplies the type vocabulary that other Nortel NTWS MIBs use to report actual rogue-AP detection, interference, and RF security status. It is inherently dependent on being imported by other Nortel NTWS functional MIBs (e.g., wireless intrusion detection/RF management modules) that reference these types. It is used in Nortel wireless LAN switch/controller deployments as supporting infrastructure for wireless security and RF monitoring MIBs. Engineers can download the NTWS-RF-DETECT-TC file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NTWS-RF-DETECT-TC. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

- Nortel Networks wireless LAN switch/controller and access point
Monitoring Examples
This module defines no tables or scalar objects of its own — no sample objects were extracted — so there is no direct monitoring scenario to describe; instead, other Nortel NTWS MIBs import its textual-convention type definitions to classify a detected device or RF condition when reporting status. An administrator would encounter these types indirectly, for example seeing a rogue-device classification rendered using an enumeration defined here when browsing a Nortel wireless switch's RF detection table. Because it carries no OIDs of managed objects, it cannot be polled directly for status.
