Category: Hardware Inventory
Description: Monitors Nokia hardware module inventory, operational status, and fault state for network elements.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is NOKIA-HWM-MIB?
NOKIA-HWM-MIB is a Nokia Hardware Management MIB used to track the inventory and operational status of hardware modules (units and slots) within Nokia network elements. It exposes per-unit tables covering administrative and operational state, availability status, LED indicator state, serial number, and production date, along with a corresponding slot table for physical placement tracking. This MIB is directly focused on hardware status monitoring: it reports whether each hardware unit is administratively enabled and operationally up, its availability status, and its LED state, and it even supports a remote restart action for fault recovery. It is a common infrastructure MIB likely referenced by, or working alongside, other Nokia network-element-specific hardware and role MIBs (such as NOKIA-COMMON-NE-ROLE-MIB) for full network element context. It is typically deployed in Nokia carrier network elements where operators need real-time visibility into card/module health and slot occupancy. Engineers can download the NOKIA-HWM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NOKIA-HWM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Nokia network element (router/optical/IP-MPLS platform hardware modules)
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll ntcHWUnitTable (via ntcHWUnitEntry) to check ntcHWAdminState and ntcHWOperState for each hardware unit, flagging any unit that is administratively enabled but operationally down. The ntcHWAvailabilityStatus object reveals degraded conditions such as a hardware unit running with an internal fault, while ntcHWLedState mirrors the physical LED indicator for quick visual correlation. Cross-referencing ntcHWSlotTable with ntcHWSerialNumber and ntcHWProductionDate lets an operator confirm inventory accuracy, and ntcHWRestart provides a remote-recovery action when a faulty unit is detected.
What Can Be Monitored
- hardware unit admin/operational state
- availability status (fault/degraded)
- LED indicator state
- serial number and production date
- slot occupancy/inventory
