Description: Defines QoS policy maps, CoS mapping, WRR bandwidth allocation, port rate control, and RED configuration for NMS switch products

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NMS-QOS-MIB?

NMS-QOS-MIB is a vendor-specific Quality-of-Service MIB for NMS Communications' managed switch products, defining policy-based traffic classification and scheduling. It exposes configuration objects for policy maps and their per-port application, CoS-to-queue mapping tables (global and per-port), weighted round-robin (WRR) bandwidth allocation, per-port rate control, and Random Early Detection (RED) congestion parameters. While primarily a configuration MIB, it is used in monitoring to verify that QoS policy state matches intended service-level design, helping detect misapplied policies that could cause traffic starvation or congestion. It builds on the same enterprise MIB tree as NMS-QOS-EXT-MIB and assumes standard ifIndex-based interface referencing. It is deployed in enterprise or carrier networks using NMS switches where differentiated traffic handling must be verified and audited, a task for which NMS-QOS-MIB SNMP monitoring is routinely used.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NMS-QOS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • nms Co., Ltd. managed switch (policy-based QoS/WRR/RED, vendor unidentified)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator can poll policyMapTable and policyMapApplyTable to confirm which QoS policy map is bound to each interface, and cross-check globalCosMapTable and portCosMapTable to verify CoS-to-queue mappings are consistent between global defaults and port-specific overrides. Polling wrrBandwidthTable reveals the weighted round-robin bandwidth shares assigned to each queue, while portRateControlTable exposes configured rate limits per port; a mismatch between expected and actual values would indicate a misconfigured or drifted policy. The red object surfaces RED congestion-avoidance parameters, letting an operator confirm active congestion management on oversubscribed links.

What Can Be Monitored

  • QoS policy map assignment per interface
  • CoS-to-queue mapping (global and per-port)
  • WRR bandwidth allocation per queue
  • per-port rate control limits
  • RED congestion-avoidance configuration
  • default CoS setting
