Category: NTP

Description: Configures NMS Communications NTP client server associations, stratum, and clock synchronization state.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NMS-NTP-MIB?

This is an NMS Communications vendor MIB for managing the Network Time Protocol client/server configuration on its telephony/media platforms, covering server associations, stratum level, and clock synchronization state. It exposes configuration data (enabling/disabling the NTP service) along with synchronization status that reflects whether the device's clock is properly locked to its configured time source. It is primarily useful for monitoring the software-level health of time synchronization — an unsynchronized or disabled NTP service can cause call detail record timestamp drift or logging inconsistencies on the platform. It builds on the concepts of the standard IETF NTP protocol though implemented as a proprietary vendor MIB rather than deriving from a published NTP MIB module. It is typically deployed on NMS Communications media/voice processing platforms where accurate time synchronization is required for billing and event correlation, making NMS-NTP-MIB SNMP monitoring an important part of maintaining timestamp accuracy across the platform.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NMS-NTP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • NMS Communications voice/media processing platform

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll the NTP service enable/disable status object to confirm the service is running, then check clock synchronization/stratum status to verify the device's clock is properly disciplined; because only a single "NTP service status" object was present in the sample data, other fields such as configured server associations could not be confirmed from the material provided.

What Can Be Monitored

  • NTP service enabled/disabled state
  • clock synchronization status
