Category: LAN Management

Description: Manages NMS Communications MAC address table entries, aging timers, and static unicast forwarding entries.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NMS-MAC-MIB?

NMS-MAC-MIB is a private MIB (NMS-SMI enterprise family) reporting MAC address table (FDB) content and per-port/VLAN learning control on switches. Its per-port FDB-read table records VLAN ID and MAC address learned on a given port, a user-FDB table records up to eight static MAC addresses per module, a port-disable-learning table toggles MAC learning per port, and a VLAN-disable-learning table toggles it per VLAN. As a configuration/status MIB it lets an administrator confirm which MAC addresses are learned on a given port and whether learning is disabled there (e.g., for a locked-down access port). It is deployed on this vendor's switches (NMS SMI platform family). Engineers can download the NMS-MAC-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NMS-MAC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • nms Co., Ltd. switch (MAC address table/FDB, vendor unidentified)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator checks disableLearning on a port to confirm MAC learning is intentionally disabled before troubleshooting why a new device isn't appearing in the FDB.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-port/VLAN MAC learning state
  • FDB content
