Category: Hardware Inventory

Description: Handles flash memory partitions, file system operations, and storage status on NMS Communications devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NMS-FLASH?

NMS-FLASH is a vendor-specific MIB from NMS Communications (a telephony/media-processing hardware vendor) used to manage the flash memory subsystem of its network devices. It exposes data about flash partitions, file-system layout, and storage operations such as formatting, writing, or erasing flash regions. Its primary monitoring value is hardware/software status: administrators use it to check flash storage health, available space, partition state, and the success or failure of firmware/file write operations, which is critical since a failed flash operation can leave a device unable to boot. It is a proprietary extension and does not appear to depend on a specific standard MIB beyond the general SNMPv2 SMI framework. Typical deployment is on NMS Communications voice/media gateway or signaling boards where flash-resident configuration and firmware must be monitored for capacity and integrity. Engineers can download the NMS-FLASH file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NMS-FLASH. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • NMS Communications media/voice gateway or signaling board

Monitoring Examples

Since no runtime data objects were captured in the sample set, a concrete polling scenario cannot be grounded in real object names here; the module is understood from its description to expose flash partition and file-system operation status rather than a documented object list. In practice an operator would poll partition-status style scalars/tables to detect a partition reporting an error state or unexpectedly low free space, which would signal an impending flash write failure. Because the object set is not available, this should be treated as a general characterization rather than a specific object-level example.

What Can Be Monitored

  • flash partition status
  • available flash storage space
  • flash write/erase operation result
  • file system integrity
