Description: Performance alarm threshold management for CPU usage, RAM, temperature, and voltage on NMS EPON ONU devices
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is NMS-EPON-ONU-PARAM?
NMS-EPON-ONU-PARAM is a MIB for managing performance alarm thresholds on EPON (Ethernet Passive Optical Network) Optical Network Units (ONUs), a common component in FTTH/FTTB access networks. It defines threshold-configuration objects for key ONU health parameters: CPU usage, RAM usage, operating temperature, and voltage. This MIB is squarely focused on hardware status monitoring, letting an operator set alarm thresholds so the ONU or its management system raises an alert when CPU load, memory consumption, temperature, or supply voltage on the customer-premises optical unit crosses a defined limit, all classic indicators of an overloaded or overheating device. As an ONU-specific parameter MIB it typically works alongside broader EPON/GPON OLT-ONU management MIBs that cover optical signal levels and provisioning. It is deployed by EPON access-network operators managing large populations of ONUs at subscriber premises via a centralized NMS. Engineers can download the NMS-EPON-ONU-PARAM file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NMS-EPON-ONU-PARAM. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- EPON ONU (Optical Network Unit) customer-premises equipment
Monitoring Examples
This MIB's sample object list is empty in the source data, so specific OID names cannot be cited here. Based on the module description, an operator would configure alarm thresholds for ONU CPU usage, RAM usage, temperature, and voltage, then monitor for threshold-crossing alarms. Such an alarm would indicate a specific ONU is overheating, overloaded, or experiencing a power-supply issue.
What Can Be Monitored
- CPU usage threshold
- RAM usage threshold
- temperature threshold
- voltage threshold
- alarm status
