Description: Configures IEEE 802.1Qbe Multiple Registration Protocol applicant and registrar state machines on Netgear switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is NETGEAR-MRP-MIB?
NETGEAR-MRP-MIB is a Netgear private MIB implemented on FastPath-based managed switches to configure the IEEE 802.1Qat/802.1Qav Multiple Registration Protocol (MRP), including MRP applicant and registrar timers per port. It exposes per-port configuration data, join/leave/leave-all timer values and MRP/MMRP enable state, rather than traffic counters, since MRP is a control-plane registration protocol for VLAN and multicast group propagation. While primarily a configuration MIB, it is useful for confirming the software/operational state of the MRP feature on each port (enabled vs. disabled) and for diagnosing registration timing problems that manifest as slow or failed VLAN/group propagation across the switch fabric. It builds directly on IEEE 802.1Q bridge MIB concepts and depends on the underlying dot1dBasePort/ifIndex numbering scheme to identify ports. It is typically deployed in enterprise or industrial Netgear switch stacks using MRP for fast, standards-based dynamic VLAN and stream reservation registration in audio/video bridging or converged Ethernet environments. Engineers can download the NETGEAR-MRP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NETGEAR-MRP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Netgear FastPath-based managed switch
Monitoring Examples
An engineer would poll agentDot1qPortMrpTable/agentDot1qPortMrpEntry for a given agentDot1qMrpPort to check agentDot1qPortMrpJoinTime, agentDot1qPortMrpLeaveTime, and agentDot1qPortMrpLeaveAllTime, confirming they match standard IEEE defaults. If agentDot1qMrp or agentDot1qMrpMxrp shows the feature disabled on a port that should be running MMRP, VLAN registrations propagated via MRP will fail to reach that port, causing multicast/AVB streams to drop. Abnormally long leave timers found via this table would also explain delayed convergence after a topology change.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-port MRP join timer
- per-port MRP leave timer
- per-port MRP leave-all timer
- MRP/MMRP enable status per port
- global MRP feature state
