Category: Network Management, SNMP Framework

Description: Defines the NEC cluster management SMI structure, enterprise OID tree, and top-level MIB organization.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NEC-CLUSTER-SMI?

NEC-CLUSTER-SMI is a vendor-specific Structure of Management Information (SMI) module from NEC that defines only the top-level enterprise OID tree and naming hierarchy for NEC's cluster-management MIB family, not a functional monitoring MIB itself. It contains no scalars, tables, or notifications of its own; its sole purpose is to register the OID namespace under which other NEC cluster MIBs place their actual management objects. Because it defines no runtime objects, it exposes nothing that can be polled for hardware or software status - no uptime, temperature, CPU/memory, or fault data appears in this module; those would live in subordinate MIBs built on this OID root. Every other NEC cluster-related MIB module structurally depends on this SMI definition for its OID assignment, while this module itself depends only on standard SNMPv2-SMI conventions. It is compiled as a prerequisite import in NEC MIB toolchains but is never itself the target of SNMP polling. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the NEC-CLUSTER-SMI file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NEC-CLUSTER-SMI. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • NEC cluster-management server/hardware platform

Monitoring Examples

This module defines no runtime data objects and has an empty sample-objects list - it is a pure OID/SMI naming module, so no concrete polling or monitoring scenario can honestly be constructed for it. Its only function is to anchor the enterprise OID branch that NEC's actual cluster-management MIBs (which do define pollable objects) import and build upon.
