Category: Cisco Devices, IP and Core Protocols, SNMP Framework

Description: Declares agent capability for IP interface MIB objects on Cisco platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-IP-IF-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-IP-IF-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module declaring which objects of CISCO-IP-IF-MIB (IP-layer interface management) are implemented on a given Cisco platform's SNMP agent. It belongs to the IP interface management conformance area and defines no runtime data of its own. It plays no direct role in hardware/software status monitoring; it exists to inform management systems in advance which IP-interface-level objects can be safely polled on a specific device and software release. It is entirely dependent on the base CISCO-IP-IF-MIB it describes. It is typically used during NMS integration for Cisco routers providing IP interface configuration and status. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CISCO-IP-IF-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-IP-IF-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco routers

Monitoring Examples

This is a conformance/AGENT-CAPABILITIES module with no runtime data objects; sample_objects is empty. It declares CISCO-IP-IF-MIB feature support only, not any monitorable IP interface data itself.
