Description: Manages NBS optical spectrum analyzer measurement configuration and results.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NBS-OSA-MIB?

NBS-OSA-MIB is an NBS Networks MIB for controlling and monitoring optical spectrum analyzer (OSA) functionality embedded in or attached to optical transport equipment. It exposes a port table describing OSA measurement configuration such as attenuation and channel count, plus a spectrum table capturing per-wavelength measurement results with timestamps. Its monitoring value is optical performance/quality: administrators retrieve spectral power measurements per wavelength channel over time, which reveals channel power degradation, drift, or loss on a DWDM optical link, directly supporting optical signal-quality assurance rather than generic device health. It is a self-contained OSA-specific MIB but works alongside other NBS optical MIBs sharing the same chassis and IfIndex conventions. It is deployed on DWDM/optical transport network equipment, where NBS-OSA-MIB SNMP monitoring of an embedded spectrum analyzer tracks multiplexed wavelength channels for early signs of degradation.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NBS-OSA-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • NBS Networks DWDM/optical transport equipment with embedded spectrum analyzer

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls nbsOsaPortTable/nbsOsaPortEntry for nbsOsaPortAttenuation and nbsOsaPortChannels to confirm the OSA measurement configuration for a given port, then reads nbsOsaSpectrumTable/nbsOsaSpectrumEntry entries keyed by nbsOsaSpectrumWavelength and nbsOsaSpectrumTimestamp to track power level trends per DWDM channel. A wavelength channel showing a sudden power drop across successive nbsOsaSpectrumTimestamp readings signals a degrading optical transmitter or fiber issue on that channel.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-channel optical power/spectrum measurement
  • wavelength channel identification
  • measurement attenuation setting
  • channel count per port
  • measurement timestamp history
