Description: Manages D-Link switch file system operations, firmware images, and configurations.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is MY-FILE-MIB?
MY-FILE-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from D-Link managing file-system operations on its managed switches, covering firmware image and configuration file transfers (e.g., TFTP/FTP uploads and downloads). It belongs to the switch software/firmware-management technology area of D-Link's product line. It exposes a file-transfer table recording transfer means (protocol), operation type, source/destination filenames, remote server address, and the resulting transfer status, data length, and completion state. Its central monitoring value is software status — tracking whether a firmware or configuration file transfer succeeded, failed, or is still in progress, and how much data was transferred — which is directly relevant to confirming a device is running the intended software version after an upgrade. It depends on the base D-Link switch system MIB (e.g., MY-SYSTEM-MIB) for overall device identity, and is deployed on D-Link managed switches during firmware upgrade or configuration backup/restore operations. Engineers can download the MY-FILE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MY-FILE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- D-Link managed Ethernet switch
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll myFileTransTable/myFileTransEntry indexed by myFileTransIndex to check myFileTransResult and myFileTransComplete after initiating a firmware upload, confirming whether the transfer of myFileTransSrcFileName from myFileTransServerAddr completed successfully. The myFileTransDataLength object shows how many bytes were transferred, letting an admin detect a truncated or stalled transfer, while myFileTransOperType and myFileTransMeans indicate the operation type and protocol used. A myFileTransResult showing failure after a scheduled firmware push would indicate the switch did not receive the new image and remains on its old software version.
What Can Be Monitored
- firmware/configuration file transfer status
- transfer completion state
- bytes transferred
- transfer operation type and protocol
- source/destination filenames
