Category: WAN

Description: Monitors and manages 56K CSU/DSU configuration on Micom WAN access units.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MICOM-56KCSU-MIB?

MICOM-56KCSU-MIB is a Micom enterprise MIB for managing and monitoring 56K CSU/DSU (Channel Service Unit/Data Service Unit) units used on WAN access links, covering the line-interface configuration and status of these legacy digital circuit-terminating devices. It belongs to the WAN/leased-line access-equipment technology area and exposes configuration such as operating mode, clocking source, framing (out-of-frame/out-of-service) behavior, idle-channel handling, zero-suppression, loopback control, and adaptive filter settings, alongside corresponding status objects. It supports hardware status monitoring by letting an operator determine whether the CSU is in loopback, whether the line is reporting out-of-frame or out-of-service conditions, and what clocking source it uses — all direct indicators of a WAN line or CSU/DSU hardware problem. The paired 'mcm' (live) and 'nvm' (non-volatile/saved) object prefixes indicate the device's own convention of separating live versus persisted configuration state. It is typically deployed on Micom 56K CSU/DSU units terminating a digital leased line at a WAN access site. Engineers can download the MICOM-56KCSU-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MICOM-56KCSU-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Micom 56K CSU/DSU WAN access unit

Monitoring Examples

An operator checks mcm56kCsuCfgOperatingMode and mcm56kCsuCfgClockingSource to confirm the CSU is configured for the correct line mode and clock source, and reviews mcm56kCsuCfgTxOutOfFrame and mcm56kCsuCfgTxOutOfService flags for signs the transmitted signal is out of frame alignment or the line has been forced out of service. Checking mcm56kCsuCfgCSULoopback reveals whether the unit has inadvertently been left in loopback test mode, which would explain a WAN link outage, while values under mcm56KCsuStatusGroup would be compared against the nvm56kCsuCfgOperatingMode saved configuration to spot a live/saved mismatch.

What Can Be Monitored

  • CSU/DSU operating mode
  • clocking source
  • out-of-frame / out-of-service line status
  • CSU loopback state
  • zero-suppression and idle-channel configuration
