Category: Network Management

Description: Provides management objects for DAVID network device configuration and operational monitoring.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is DAVID-MIB?

DAVID-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB (branded david/davidExpressNet) providing chassis and card-level configuration and status objects for a modular network device, exposing chassis type, backplane type/revision, and power supply type/status, along with a per-slot configuration table describing board ID, board type, description, and number of ports. This gives it clear hardware-status monitoring value: it lets an operator check the chassis power supply status, confirm backplane compatibility, and inventory which board/card type is installed in each slot along with its port count, which is useful for detecting a failed power supply, a mismatched backplane revision, or an unexpected/missing line card. No specific dependency on other MIBs is indicated by the available data, suggesting a largely self-contained enterprise chassis MIB. It would be deployed on modular chassis-based network devices marketed under the David/Express Net product branding, likely in enterprise or carrier access network environments. Engineers can download the DAVID-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DAVID-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Modular chassis-based network device (David/Express Net branded)

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll exNetChassisPsType and exNetChassisPsStatus to confirm the installed power supply type is healthy, and would check exNetChassisBkplType/exNetChassisBkplRev to verify backplane compatibility during a hardware audit. The exNetSlotConfigTable/exNetSlotConfigEntry (indexed by exNetSlotIndex) would be walked to inventory exNetBoardId, exNetBoardType, exNetBoardDescr, and exNetBoardNumOfPorts per chassis slot, flagging an unexpected board type or a slot reporting fewer ports than expected as a possible hardware fault or misconfiguration. A degraded exNetChassisPsStatus value would be a strong signal of an impending power supply failure requiring replacement.

What Can Be Monitored

  • chassis power supply type/status
  • backplane type and revision
  • per-slot board ID/type/description
  • per-slot port count
