Description: Manages power cycle and reboot operations on Mellanox switch hardware.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is MELLANOX-POWER-CYCLE-MIB?
MELLANOX-POWER-CYCLE-MIB is a Mellanox Technologies (NVIDIA) vendor MIB for remotely power-cycling or rebooting Mellanox switch hardware. It exposes a small set of command/control and status objects for triggering a power cycle operation and reading back the resulting execution status. It is explicitly used to monitor and control hardware-level status of the switch, letting an operator confirm whether a requested power cycle command executed successfully or is still pending, which is critical when recovering a hung or unresponsive unit. It is a narrowly scoped vendor extension that complements the broader MELLANOX-MIB rather than depending on any IETF standard. It is deployed on Mellanox switches in data center environments where remote, out-of-band-style recovery of a hung switch is needed without physical access. Engineers can download the MELLANOX-POWER-CYCLE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MELLANOX-POWER-CYCLE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Mellanox (NVIDIA) switches
Monitoring Examples
An operator sets mellanoxPowerCycleCmdExecute to trigger a remote reboot of an unresponsive switch, then polls mellanoxPowerCycleCmdStatus and mellanoxPowerCycleCmdStatusString to confirm the power cycle completed successfully rather than stalling partway through. mellanoxPowerCycleNotifications would alert a management station when a power cycle event occurs, helping correlate a brief network outage with a deliberate remote reboot rather than an unplanned failure. If mellanoxPowerCycleCmdStatus continues to report a pending or failed state well after the command was issued, that signals the switch may require physical intervention.
What Can Be Monitored
- power cycle command execution trigger
- power cycle command status
- power cycle status message
