Description: Configures Virtual Port Channel (VPC/LAG) bonding, member ports, and aggregation status on Netgear switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NETGEAR-VPC-MIB?

NETGEAR-VPC-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB for Netgear switches that models Virtual Port Channel (VPC), a link-aggregation/multi-chassis LAG technology used to bond ports across two switches for redundancy. It exposes configuration data for VPC groups along with operational status for peer keepalive links and peer VPC links. Administrators use it to monitor the software and link status of the VPC feature itself, such as whether the peer keepalive heartbeat is up and whether the peer link carrying inter-switch traffic is healthy, both of which are critical to preventing a split-brain condition. It has no apparent dependency on external standard MIBs beyond typical Netgear enterprise conventions. It is deployed in switch stacks or redundant switch pairs where Netgear's VPC feature is used to provide loop-free, redundant uplinks to downstream devices. Engineers can download the NETGEAR-VPC-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NETGEAR-VPC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Netgear managed switch
  • Netgear switch stack (VPC pair)

Monitoring Examples

An admin polling agentVpcPeerKeepAliveStatsGroup would check peer keepalive counters to confirm the two VPC peer switches are still exchanging heartbeat messages; a drop to zero or an error increment would indicate the keepalive link is down, risking a split-brain scenario. agentVpcPeerLinkStatsGroup exposes traffic and status statistics on the dedicated peer link, letting the admin verify the inter-switch trunk is passing traffic, while agentVpcStatusGroup reports overall VPC operational state and agentVpcConfigGroup reflects the configured VPC parameters for comparison against expected values.

What Can Be Monitored

  • VPC configuration state
  • peer keepalive link status
  • peer link traffic/status
  • overall VPC operational status
