Description: Manages D-Link switch SNMP agent community strings, traps, and access settings.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is MY-SNMP-AGENT-MIB?
MY-SNMP-AGENT-MIB is a D-Link proprietary MIB that manages the switch's own SNMP agent configuration, including community strings, trap destinations, and access controls. It exposes a community table defining community names, read/write access, optional per-community IP address authentication, and status, plus a trap destination table listing the addresses that receive SNMP traps from the switch. This is a management-plane configuration MIB rather than a hardware-status MIB: administrators use it to audit which SNMP communities exist, whether any are writable (a security concern), and which NMS hosts are configured to receive traps, ensuring the switch's own manageability and alerting are correctly set up. It is a vendor extension layered on top of standard SNMP community-based access control concepts. It is deployed on D-Link managed switches wherever SNMP-based monitoring and trap notification needs to be configured and audited for security compliance. Engineers can download the MY-SNMP-AGENT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MY-SNMP-AGENT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- D-Link managed switches (SNMP agent community/trap configuration)
Monitoring Examples
A security audit reviews myCommunityTable to list every myCommunityName along with myCommunityWritable and myCommunityEnableIpAddrAuthen, flagging any writable community lacking IP-address restriction (myCommunityUserIpAddr) as a risk. Separately, myTrapDstTable is checked to confirm myTrapDstAddr entries point to the correct, current NMS servers so trap notifications aren't silently being sent to a decommissioned host. If myCommunityStatus shows an unexpected community as active, that's investigated as a potential unauthorized access vector.
What Can Be Monitored
- SNMP community names and write access
- community IP-address authentication
- SNMP trap destination addresses
- community/trap entry status
