Description: GE MDS IEEE 802.11 wireless interface MIB providing RF statistics and configuration objects for GE MDS Wi-Fi capable devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MDS-IF-IEEE80211-MIB?

This is a GE MDS (industrial wireless data) MIB for IEEE 802.11 Wi-Fi interfaces on GE MDS wireless devices, in the industrial/utility wireless networking technology area. It exposes 802.11 radio configuration such as mode, channel, and transmit power, along with per-associated-station status including SSID, BSSID, signal strength, and authentication/authorization state. It is squarely a hardware/RF status monitoring MIB: mIfDot11TxPower and mIfDot11Channel reveal radio configuration health, mIfDot11StationRssi shows signal quality to a connected station, mIfDot11StationAuthenticated/Authorized flag whether a station has completed its security handshake, and mIfDot11SerialNumber ties the data to a specific radio unit. It models concepts from the IEEE 802.11 standard, similar in spirit to the IETF IEEE802dot11-MIB, adapted with GE MDS's proprietary indexing. It is deployed in industrial/utility wireless field networks (e.g., SCADA/field-area networks) using GE MDS Wi-Fi-capable radios for remote monitoring links, and administrators typically load the MDS-IF-IEEE80211-MIB MIB Browser file to inspect these objects directly.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MDS-IF-IEEE80211-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • GE MDS industrial wireless radio/gateway
  • 802.11 Wi-Fi-capable field devices

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll mIfDot11StatusTable (mIfDot11StatusEntry) to read mIfDot11StationRssi for a station identified by mIfDot11StationSsid/mIfDot11StationBssid, spotting a weak or degrading signal before a link drops. mIfDot11StationAuthenticated and mIfDot11StationAuthorized would be checked when a remote station fails to join the network, and mIfDot11StationInactive would reveal how long a station has been idle, useful for detecting a silently failed remote unit.

What Can Be Monitored

  • radio transmit power
  • operating channel
  • station RSSI/signal strength
  • station authentication status
  • station authorization status
  • station inactivity time
