What Is MDS-ORBIT-SMI-MIB?

MDS-ORBIT-SMI-MIB is a Structure-of-Management-Information (SMI) registration module published by GE MDS for its Orbit family of industrial wireless radios and gateways used in SCADA, utility, and telemetry networks. Rather than defining runtime data objects, it establishes the private-enterprise OID hierarchy under which all other GE MDS Orbit MIB modules register their object groups, notifications, and conformance statements. As a pure registration module it does not itself expose interface, environmental, performance, or fault data - those are defined in sibling Orbit MIB modules that hang off the tree this module creates. It has an implicit dependency on the standard SNMPv2-SMI framework since it is built directly from that convention to allocate its OID branch. It is deployed wherever GE MDS Orbit wireless devices are managed, serving purely as the organizational backbone for the vendor's broader Orbit MIB suite. Administrators managing these deployments typically keep an MDS-ORBIT-SMI-MIB reference on hand to trace how each sibling module's OIDs branch from this registration root.
