Description: Sun Microsystems module catalog MIB listing currently or previously loaded SNMP modules on Sun Solaris management platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MCP-MIB2?

MCP-MIB2 is a Sun Microsystems SNMP MIB, part of the "sunsymon" (Sun SyMON) system-management family, that triggers and reports the status of Module Catalog Program (MCP) maintenance scripts on Solaris-based management platforms. It exposes trigger/status object pairs for several script operations - operationTrigger/operationStatus, publishTrigger/publishStatus, propagateTrigger/propagateStatus, getscriptsTrigger/getscriptsStatus - plus a scriptRegistryTable cataloging registered scripts and a moduleRegistryTable listing currently or previously loaded SNMP modules on the agent. It is used to monitor the software status of the management agent itself: the various *Status objects report whether a script operation (fetching, publishing, or propagating scripts) succeeded, failed, or is in progress, and moduleRegistryTable reveals exactly which SNMP sub-agent modules are currently loaded, useful for confirming an expected module set after an agent restart or upgrade. It operates within the Sun SyMON/agent framework, depending on that platform's underlying script and module registry mechanisms rather than standard IETF MIBs. It is deployed on Sun Solaris systems running the Sun Management Center (SunSyMON) agent framework, where administrators manage which monitoring modules and scripts are active. Engineers can download the MCP-MIB2 file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MCP-MIB2. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Sun Microsystems Solaris server running Sun Management Center (SunSyMON) agent

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would set operationTrigger to invoke an MCP maintenance script and then poll operationStatus to confirm it completed successfully, similarly using publishTrigger/publishStatus and propagateTrigger/propagateStatus to track script publishing and propagation jobs across the management infrastructure. Walking moduleRegistryTable reveals every SNMP module currently or previously loaded on the agent, letting an admin confirm a specific monitoring module is actually registered and active after an upgrade, while scriptRegistryTable/script objects show which scripts are catalogued for execution.

What Can Be Monitored

  • script operation trigger/status (operation, publish, propagate, getscripts)
  • SNMP module registry (loaded modules)
  • script registry contents
